Ottawa School of Art Student Gallery becomes the Lee Matasi Gallery

In honour of Lee Matasi, the Student Association of the Ottawa School of Art has permanently re-named their new gallery space "The Lee Matasi Gallery."

 

Ottawa, On. (Jan 20th, 2006) Lee Matasi was a talented artist and recent graduate of the OSA's Studio Arts Diploma Program. A victim of gun violence, Lee's magnetic personality, breathtaking talent and strong voice influenced the school community as well as our entire nation.  There are photos of Lee in the student gallery now, along with some works and a large blank canvas for writing memories and thoughts onto. A full retrospective of Lee's work and public celebration of Lee's life and accomplishments will take place in March at the OSA Gallery.

 

The Lee Matasi Gallery is a non-profit and student-run space, open seven days a week and featuring exhibits from students engaged in Ottawa School of Art full-time studies.

 

The Ottawa School of Art offers Diploma and Certificate Programs, and a full range of community level art courses including drawing, painting, photography, new media, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and a wide variety of specialized short courses and workshops. Children's and Teens' classes range from multi-media to animation and cartooning, to sculpture and construction, pottery, drawing and painting.

The Ottawa School of Art is located at35 George Street in the Byward Market. Look for the totem pole. Admission to the galleries are always free.
